A day at the coolest freeride camp in Saalbach
(+ helpful tips)

In summer, we rock the trails!

Right at the start of the summer season, on July 2, 2020, we kicked off our first freeride camp of the season. Daniel Kraut and Manuel Gruber shared their insider tips with the participants over three exciting, informative and really relaxed days. There was also more than enough time for practical exercises with the Austrian downhill state champions, for extensive riding and a chilled get-together …

What exactly does a day in Saalbach-Hinterglemm’s coolest freeride camp look like? What tips and tricks did the professionals reveal to us? And what else can we expect this summer? Find out now!

A look behind the scenes: Bike enjoyment from morning to night

The first camp participants arrive at the breakfast buffet at 7:30 a.m., where delicious refreshments await them for the day. After all, athletes’ muscles need plenty of fuel – and there’s plenty of it at the breakfast buffet: from a large selection of muesli, crispy pastries and delicious egg dishes to crunchy fruit and freshly squeezed fruit juice …

Trails, technique training & fantastic views

At 9:00 a.m. it’s time to hit the trails! Initially, the routes are a little easier. The pros explain what you need to bear in mind when braking and cornering, and you get to practise a little. As soon as everyone has warmed up and got used to the techniques, the Kohlmaisbahn takes you up to the panorama trails and the Monti Trail.

It’s not just the view that bikers get their money’s worth. In between, there are repeated stops at smaller and larger jetties (for all rookies: jetties are raised curves). With helpful explanations and exercises, technique is honed during these stops, and of course there is also plenty of time to ride together.

Moshing, jumps, turns & bunny hops: MTB enthusiasts can expect the full program!

Chilling & screwing for all you’re worth

How could it be any different after an exciting day on the trails? In the afternoon, it’s time to chill out. A large (and well-deserved!) cake buffet awaits hungry downhillers at the hotel. The homemade treats from the bakery are also ideal for replenishing carbohydrate stores.

Talk shop on comfortable deckchairs in the garden, chat about the coolest experiences of the day and let the sun shine on your belly: It couldn’t be more relaxed.

If you want, you can make your bike shine again at the practical bike wash station. Material science, adjusting the brakes, adjusting the gears: The professionals also provide helpful tips on screwing. What does this look like in practice? You can see this in our two quick tips.

Quick tips from the pros

How do you actually replace the brake pads? What is the best way to change a hose? The professionals will show you how it’s done!

A successful end to the day

Finally, the day ends as it began: full of enjoyment. For dinner, guests at the Hotel Barbarahof can look forward to a 4-course menu with a choice of three main courses. Hard-working bikers can look forward to a delicious buffet in our gourmet workshop. And once a week we have a barbecue together in the garden.

Afterwards, the participants sit down with the bike pros, who are available to answer questions and share their insights based on a video analysis. Such evenings can sometimes be a little longer. But not too long, of course, because the next day you’ll be out on the trails again early in the morning, fresh and cheerful …

NEW: Girl power to the power of ten

We have come up with something very special for September: a camp especially for all MTB-enthusiastic girls. At the Girls Freeride Camp, both rookies and racers get their money’s worth – and exclusively among like-minded girls!

We are already looking forward to these other MTB camps at the Hotel Barbarahof
