Sustainable tourism is a matter close to our hearts. Because we know that behind the big word there are often only small deeds, we would like to go one step further. We are already “green” all around at Hotel Barbarahof – feel free to read below about our commitment to the environment!
In the future, we would like to improve even further and eventually be awarded the Austrian Ecolabel. The requirements for this are very high, but that is precisely what we welcome: Only companies that stand behind their sustainability promise with heart and soul should be allowed to bear the mark. Work Green: Doing what you can
Sustainability in everyday hotel life is a choice. And we have decided: for green energy, for example. Since 2008, we have been heating the entire hotel using geothermal energy. When it comes to construction and conversion, we also prefer to focus on ecological and social benefits rather than economic ones. Even for great-grandpa Rudi, it was a matter of course to hire professionals and trades from the nearby area. And our chambermaids also clean not only with great attention to detail, but also with many sustainable products and as few chemicals as possible. We also owe this to partners like “Hagleitner”, who continuously provide us with innovative products.
Shopping green: So close, so good
When it comes to our highly acclaimed cuisine, we know no compromise. As far as possible, we only put in the pantry what comes from the local area. We maintain contact with our farmers and thus not only protect the environment, but also conjure up fresh and healthy enjoyment on the plate. We have vitamins from the Leßl fruit farm. Fish from suppliers from the region. Naturally grown lamb from our mountain farms. And last but not least, pork and beef from GOURMETFEIN. Our trusted butcher is certified with the AMA seal of quality and offers 100% Austrian, traceable, GMO and gluten-free meat. So close, so good!
Travel green: Vacation for car
Are you traveling by e-car? It’s a good match! An electric charging station is waiting directly in front of our hotel entrance. All other vehicles can be conveniently parked in the parking lot and you will not need them again until you leave – promised! Thanks to the central location, the free hiking bus in summer and free ski shuttle in winter you can get everywhere even without a car. If you are arriving by train, you can apply for a travel ticket that will allow you to cover the last few meters of the bus free of charge. From 2023 we offer you a particularly sustainable mobility treat: our SCOTT rental e-bikes. You will see: With us at Barbarahof you are mobile even without a car.
Live Green: Naturally cozy
Whether it’s our team or our guests, we want everyone to have a sustainably enjoyable time with us. Our employee dormitory is just a few steps away. The way to work can be done without a car – and thanks to the nearby bus stop also the way to many excursion destinations.
Meanwhile, our guests enjoy the extensive greenery in the garden. Whether sunbathing, being active, breathing in the mountain air, feeding the rabbits or romping on the playground: the whole family can relax here “completely” close to nature. Last but not least, we offer pure sleeping comfort with reversible wellness mattresses and alpine pillow menu. After all, sustainable recovery begins in the bedroom!
Breathe green: the air is clean
In the fall of 2021, we began to take a close look at the topic of indoor air purification. In “ACTIVE COATING by Mursallgroup” we have found the perfect partner. The company has equipped all interiors in the hotel with “ACTIVE COATING”. Windows and walls have been coated to decompose fine dust, bacteria, odors and allergens and create a healthy and comfortable indoor environment. In this way, we ensure sustainably better and pollutant-free breathing air in a completely natural way and without power consumption. You can find more information about this in our blog post.
Experience Green: Sustainable resort
From the “Home of Casual” to the “Home of Sustainability”: Saalbach Hinterglemm has set itself big goals. “Climate neutrality” is the name of the vision, and it will take us and all other businesses to make it a reality. The 2025 World Ski Championships will be one of the flagships of the sustainability effort. Because: It should become the most sustainable sports spectacle ever! You as a guest can also contribute a part. Buy local and support local producers. From fruity “Granggn” jam and juicy alpine mozzarella to wooden decorations and woolen hoods, we have everything that comes from the region and is made locally with love. This makes shopping fun!
